Blur or Pixelate Part of an Image
Hide faces, plates and private details
To blur part of an image, open it above, move the dashed box over a face, number plate or private text, choose Pixelate or Blur and click Apply. Repeat for more areas. To soften the whole photo, use the Blur slider under Adjust. The picture is processed on your device, never uploaded.

Pixelate or blur?
Pixelation replaces the area with large blocks and is the clearer signal that something was intentionally hidden — the common choice for faces in news photos and number plates. Blur looks softer and less distracting, which suits backgrounds or bystanders. Both are applied permanently to the exported pixels.
Redact safely
Use a strong setting: light blur on text can sometimes be partly reversed, and small, readable characters may stay legible. For documents with sensitive numbers, a solid box (Shapes → Rectangle with Fill) is the safest redaction. And because Fylo never uploads your file, the unredacted original isn't stored on any server.
What to hide before sharing
Before posting screenshots or photos online, check for faces of people who didn't agree to be shared, children's school names and uniforms, car number plates, house numbers and street signs near your home, boarding passes and tickets with barcodes, bank card and account numbers, email addresses and phone numbers in chat screenshots, and medicine labels. Barcodes and QR codes on tickets can contain your booking reference, so pixelate them completely.
Use several smaller areas rather than one large box when details are spread out, so the rest of the picture stays clear.
Frequently asked questions
Can I blur the background behind a person?
Fylo blurs rectangular areas or the whole image. Automatic subject detection (portrait-mode style) isn't available yet.
Is the blur permanent?
Yes, once exported. Before exporting you can undo it.
Can I blur parts of a video?
Not yet in the video editor.
Does it remove metadata too?
Yes — exported images don't include the original photo's EXIF data such as GPS location.
Can I blur a QR code?
Yes. Use Pixelate at a strong setting over the whole code so it can no longer be scanned.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Blur Image runs entirely in your browser — your files are processed on your own device and never sent anywhere. Once the page has loaded, it even keeps working if your connection drops.
