Remove EXIF Data from Photos
Strip GPS location and camera details — without losing quality
To remove EXIF data, drop your photos below and click Remove metadata. Fylo strips GPS location, camera model, dates and other hidden tags in your browser and shows you what it found. JPG files are cleaned without re-compression, so image quality is untouched — and nothing is ever uploaded.

What is EXIF data and why remove it?
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is information your camera or phone embeds in every photo: device make and model, lens, exposure settings, date and time and — if location services are on — the exact GPS coordinates where the picture was taken. Sharing a photo with intact EXIF can reveal your home address, daily routine or the device you own.
Major social networks strip most metadata from public posts, but email attachments, cloud-storage links, messaging apps that send 'original quality' files, forums and online marketplaces often pass the original file on untouched.
How Fylo removes metadata without losing quality
For JPG, Fylo rewrites the file structure and drops the APP1 (EXIF and XMP) and APP13 (IPTC) segments, plus comments, while copying the compressed image data byte for byte — so there's no re-compression and no quality loss. The ICC colour profile is kept so colours look the same. PNG text, time and EXIF chunks and WebP EXIF/XMP chunks are removed the same lossless way.
Photos that rely on an EXIF rotation tag are re-encoded at 95% quality with the rotation applied, so they don't appear sideways once the tag is gone.

Frequently asked questions
Does removing EXIF reduce image quality?
Not for JPG, PNG or WebP files without a rotation tag — Fylo removes metadata losslessly. Rotated photos are re-encoded at a very high 95% quality.
How can I check whether a photo has GPS data?
Drop it into Fylo. Before cleaning, it lists what it found, including whether GPS coordinates are present.
Do social media sites remove EXIF automatically?
Large networks such as Facebook, Instagram and X strip most metadata from public images, but direct file transfers, email, cloud links and many forums keep the original file. Cleaning photos yourself is the only way to be sure.
Which formats are supported?
JPG, PNG and WebP. For iPhone HEIC photos, use HEIC to JPG — the converted JPG contains no EXIF at all.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Remove EXIF Data runs entirely in your browser — your files are processed on your own device and never sent anywhere. Once the page has loaded, it even keeps working if your connection drops.
