Why convert PNG to JPG?
PNG screenshots and exported photos can be huge. Converting them to JPG makes files small enough to email, attach to forms with size limits, upload to marketplaces or share in chat apps that would otherwise compress them badly. JPG is also the most widely accepted format at print shops and government portals.
Does converting PNG to JPG affect quality or size?
JPG has no transparency, so see-through pixels are flattened onto a background colour — white by default, adjustable under Advanced. At quality 90 photos look unchanged; text-heavy screenshots and line art can show faint ringing around sharp edges, so keep those as PNG or raise the quality.
What's the difference between PNG and JPG?
PNG is a lossless format with full transparency. It keeps every pixel exact, which makes it ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics — but photos saved as PNG are large.
JPG is the world's most common photo format. It uses lossy compression to keep photos small, but it has no transparency and loses a little detail every time it's re-saved.

Frequently asked questions
What happens to a transparent background when converting PNG to JPG?
JPG can't store transparency, so Fylo fills those pixels with a solid colour. White is the default; you can pick black or any other colour in Advanced settings.
Is PNG to JPG conversion lossless?
No. JPG is lossy, so some fine detail is discarded to save space. At 90% quality the difference is very hard to see in photos.
Are my PNG files uploaded to a server?
No. Fylo converts PNG to JPG entirely inside your browser using a background Web Worker, so your files never leave your device. That's also why it's fast — there's no upload or download wait.
