Why convert WebP to JPG?
Images saved from websites often arrive as .webp, which older versions of Photoshop, Microsoft Office, some print shops and many upload forms reject. Converting WebP to JPG gives you a file every device, editor and printer can open.
Does converting WebP to JPG affect quality or size?
Both formats are lossy, so the image is decoded and re-encoded; at the default quality of 90 the change is invisible for normal viewing, but the JPG is often larger than the WebP. Transparent WebP images are flattened onto white. Animated WebPs are converted from their first frame.
What's the difference between WebP and JPG?
WebP is Google's web image format. It supports lossy and lossless compression, transparency and animation, and is typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at similar quality.
JPG is the world's most common photo format. It uses lossy compression to keep photos small, but it has no transparency and loses a little detail every time it's re-saved.

Frequently asked questions
Why can't I open WebP files on my computer?
WebP support arrived late in many desktop apps — Photoshop only added native WebP support in 2022 (version 23.2), and some older viewers still lack it. JPG works everywhere.
Why is the JPG bigger than the WebP?
WebP compresses more efficiently than JPG, so the same picture needs more bytes as JPG. Lower the quality slider if you need a smaller file.
Are my WebP files uploaded to a server?
No. Fylo converts WebP to JPG entirely inside your browser using a background Web Worker, so your files never leave your device. That's also why it's fast — there's no upload or download wait.
