Why convert WebP to PNG?

Need to edit a sticker, logo or product image you downloaded as WebP? PNG is the safest editing format: lossless, transparent and supported by every design app from MS Paint to Figma. It's also the format to use when re-uploading graphics to sites that reject WebP.

Does converting WebP to PNG affect quality or size?

The PNG records the decoded WebP exactly, so the picture looks just as it did in your browser. File size usually grows — several times over for photos — because PNG compresses far less aggressively than WebP. Animated WebPs export their first frame only.

What's the difference between WebP and PNG?

WebP is Google's web image format. It supports lossy and lossless compression, transparency and animation, and is typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at similar quality.

PNG is a lossless format with full transparency. It keeps every pixel exact, which makes it ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics — but photos saved as PNG are large.

Does converting WebP to PNG keep the transparent background?

Yes. PNG has a full alpha channel, so transparent and semi-transparent pixels are kept exactly.

Is the PNG higher quality than the WebP?

It's the same quality. PNG locks in what the WebP shows, but it can't recover detail that lossy WebP compression removed.

Are my WebP files uploaded to a server?

No. Fylo converts WebP to PNG entirely inside your browser using a background Web Worker, so your files never leave your device. That's also why it's fast — there's no upload or download wait.
