Why convert HEIC to PNG?
Choose PNG over JPG when you plan to edit the photo — retouching, cutting out the subject or adding text — and don't want JPG compression on top. PNG is also handy for screenshots and graphics captured as HEIC.
Does converting HEIC to PNG affect quality or size?
PNGs from 12-megapixel iPhone photos are large, often 15–25 MB, because lossless compression can't shrink camera noise much. If you just want to share or upload the photo, HEIC to JPG is usually the better choice.
What's the difference between HEIC and PNG?
HEIC is the photo format iPhones use by default. It stores photos at about half the size of JPG, but many Windows PCs, Android apps and websites can't open it.
PNG is a lossless format with full transparency. It keeps every pixel exact, which makes it ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics — but photos saved as PNG are large.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the PNG so much larger than the HEIC?
HEIC uses HEVC video compression, roughly twice as efficient as JPG. PNG is lossless, so photos often come out 5–10× larger than the HEIC.
Can I convert HEIC on my iPhone itself?
Yes — open Fylo in Safari, tap the box and choose your photos. Note that iOS sometimes converts HEIC to JPG automatically when you pick from the Photos library; in that case you already have a JPG.
Are my HEIC files uploaded to a server?
No. Fylo converts HEIC to PNG entirely inside your browser using a background Web Worker, so your files never leave your device. That's also why it's fast — there's no upload or download wait.
