Why convert SVG to PNG?

SVG is perfect for scalable logos and icons, but many platforms — social networks, email clients, Office documents, app stores and marketplaces — require a raster image. PNG is the standard choice because it keeps the SVG's transparent background and sharp edges.

Does converting SVG to PNG affect quality or size?

Because SVG is vector, you choose the pixel size of the PNG: Fylo uses the SVG's own width by default and lets you scale up to 4× for retina screens and print. External fonts and images linked from the SVG may not render; embed them in the SVG for exact results.

What's the difference between SVG and PNG?

SVG is a vector format written in XML. It scales to any size without losing sharpness, which makes it ideal for logos and icons — but many apps and platforms only accept raster images.

PNG is a lossless format with full transparency. It keeps every pixel exact, which makes it ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics — but photos saved as PNG are large.

What resolution should I export my SVG at?

For web use, 1× or 2× the display size. For print, multiply inches by 300 — a 2-inch-wide logo needs a 600-pixel-wide PNG.

Why does my text look different in the PNG?

If the SVG uses a font that isn't embedded or installed on your device, the browser substitutes another. Convert text to outlines or embed the font before exporting.

Are my SVG files uploaded to a server?

No. Fylo converts SVG to PNG entirely inside your browser using a background Web Worker, so your files never leave your device. That's also why it's fast — there's no upload or download wait.
