Why convert PNG to ICO?
PNG is the best source for an icon because it keeps transparent backgrounds. Converting a logo PNG to ICO gives you a favicon.ico for your website root, or a custom icon for Windows shortcuts, folders and desktop apps.
Does converting PNG to ICO affect quality or size?
Fylo resizes your image into each selected size — 16, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 pixels — and bundles them in one ICO using PNG-compressed entries, the format Windows Vista and later expect. Non-square images are centred on a transparent square, so nothing is cropped.
What's the difference between PNG and ICO?
PNG is a lossless format with full transparency. It keeps every pixel exact, which makes it ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics — but photos saved as PNG are large.
ICO is the Windows icon format and the classic favicon.ico. One ICO file holds several square images (16 to 256 px) so each screen can use the sharpest size.

Frequently asked questions
How do I add a favicon.ico to my website?
Upload the file to your site's root so it's reachable at /favicon.ico, and optionally add <link rel="icon" href="/favicon.ico"> to your page head. Browsers cache favicons aggressively, so a hard refresh may be needed to see the change.
What's the best PNG size to start from?
A square PNG of at least 256 × 256 pixels. Starting larger lets Fylo downscale cleanly into every icon size.
Are my PNG files uploaded to a server?
No. Fylo converts PNG to ICO entirely inside your browser using a background Web Worker, so your files never leave your device. That's also why it's fast — there's no upload or download wait.
