Why convert WebP to ICO?

Logos and app icons downloaded from the web are increasingly WebP. Converting straight to ICO saves a round-trip through an image editor when you need a favicon.ico or a Windows shortcut icon.

Does converting WebP to ICO affect quality or size?

Transparency from the WebP is kept in every icon size. Fylo centres non-square images on a transparent square and generates 16, 32, 48 and 256-pixel versions by default; you can add 64 and 128 in Advanced settings.

What's the difference between WebP and ICO?

WebP is Google's web image format. It supports lossy and lossless compression, transparency and animation, and is typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at similar quality.

ICO is the Windows icon format and the classic favicon.ico. One ICO file holds several square images (16 to 256 px) so each screen can use the sharpest size.

Do I still need a favicon.ico if I have a PNG icon?

Modern browsers accept PNG or SVG icons via a link tag, but many browsers and tools still request /favicon.ico automatically. Shipping one avoids 404 errors and covers older browsers.

Will the icon look sharp at 16 × 16?

Detailed artwork gets muddy at tiny sizes. Bold shapes and high contrast survive best; consider a simplified version of your logo for the smallest size.

Are my WebP files uploaded to a server?

No. Fylo converts WebP to ICO entirely inside your browser using a background Web Worker, so your files never leave your device. That's also why it's fast — there's no upload or download wait.
