Why convert HEIC to JPG?
Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC by default to save storage. But Windows without extra extensions, many Android galleries, most web forms and many print services can't open HEIC. Converting to JPG makes your photos universally compatible.
Does converting HEIC to JPG affect quality or size?
HEIC stores photos at roughly half the size of JPG, so the JPG will usually be larger — often 1.5–2× the HEIC's size at quality 90. Fylo decodes HEIC entirely in your browser, so private photos never touch a server. If a HEIC holds several images, such as a burst, the primary image is converted.
What's the difference between HEIC and JPG?
HEIC is the photo format iPhones use by default. It stores photos at about half the size of JPG, but many Windows PCs, Android apps and websites can't open it.
JPG is the world's most common photo format. It uses lossy compression to keep photos small, but it has no transparency and loses a little detail every time it's re-saved.

Frequently asked questions
How do I stop my iPhone saving photos as HEIC?
Go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG; existing photos stay HEIC.
Is my photo's location data kept when converting HEIC to JPG?
No. Fylo re-encodes the pixels, so EXIF metadata such as GPS location and camera details isn't copied to the JPG — a privacy bonus when sharing photos.
Are my HEIC files uploaded to a server?
No. Fylo converts HEIC to JPG entirely inside your browser using a background Web Worker, so your files never leave your device. That's also why it's fast — there's no upload or download wait.
