Make text readable on any photo
Text on busy photos is hard to read. Fylo's outline option draws a dark stroke behind each letter — the classic meme and thumbnail look — while the background option places a semi-transparent box behind the words, which suits captions and labels. White text with an outline is legible on almost any image.
Fonts and layout tips
Choose bold sans-serif fonts like Nunito, Arial, Verdana or Impact for thumbnails and social posts; Georgia or Times for elegant quotes. Keep YouTube thumbnail text to three to five large words, place it away from the bottom-right corner (where the video length appears), and use the Layers panel to keep text above stickers and overlays.
Ideas for text on photos
Add a title and date to event photos, a price and size to product shots, a quote on a scenic background, a short caption for a meme, or step numbers on a screenshot for a tutorial. Combine text with arrows and rectangles from the Shapes tool to point at details, and use emoji stickers for a lighter tone.
| Style | Best for |

| Outline | Memes, thumbnails, busy backgrounds |
| Background box | Captions, labels, product callouts |
| Plain | Quotes on clean backgrounds |
Frequently asked questions
Can I add several text boxes?
Yes — click Add text as often as you like; each is a separate layer.
Can I rotate text?
Yes, drag the round rotation handle above the selected text.
Can I use my own font?
The editor uses fonts available in your browser plus Nunito. Custom font uploads aren't supported yet.
Will the text be blurry?
No — text is rendered at the image's full resolution when you export.
Can I add text to a GIF?
You can open a GIF, but only its first frame is edited and exported as a still image.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Add Text to Image runs entirely in your browser — your files are processed on your own device and never sent anywhere. Once the page has loaded, it even keeps working if your connection drops.
