Why convert PNG to BMP?
Some Windows-era programs, microcontroller display libraries, and older Office or CAD tools import BMP but not PNG. Converting is also handy when you need raw, uncompressed pixel data for a coding project or a hardware screen.
Does converting PNG to BMP affect quality or size?
Fylo writes standard 24-bit BMP, which most software reads reliably; transparent pixels are placed on a white background, changeable under Advanced. Because BMP isn't compressed, expect a file several times larger than the PNG.
What's the difference between PNG and BMP?
PNG is a lossless format with full transparency. It keeps every pixel exact, which makes it ideal for screenshots, logos and graphics — but photos saved as PNG are large.
BMP is Microsoft's uncompressed bitmap format. It's simple and lossless but huge: every pixel is stored raw, so a 12-megapixel photo takes about 36 MB.

Frequently asked questions
Does BMP support transparency?
In theory 32-bit BMP can carry alpha, but most programs ignore it. Fylo outputs 24-bit BMP with a solid background for maximum compatibility.
Will converting PNG to BMP lose quality?
No. Both formats are lossless, so every visible pixel stays exactly the same. Only partial transparency is flattened.
Are my PNG files uploaded to a server?
No. Fylo converts PNG to BMP entirely inside your browser using a background Web Worker, so your files never leave your device. That's also why it's fast — there's no upload or download wait.
