Why convert WebP to BMP?

Legacy Windows software, some embedded displays and older image-processing scripts only understand BMP. Converting from WebP is a quick way to bridge a modern web image to an old toolchain.

Does converting WebP to BMP affect quality or size?

The WebP is decoded and written as a 24-bit bitmap with no compression, so file size grows a lot — roughly width × height × 3 bytes. Transparent areas are filled with white by default.

What's the difference between WebP and BMP?

WebP is Google's web image format. It supports lossy and lossless compression, transparency and animation, and is typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at similar quality.

BMP is Microsoft's uncompressed bitmap format. It's simple and lossless but huge: every pixel is stored raw, so a 12-megapixel photo takes about 36 MB.

Is BMP better quality than WebP?

No. BMP stores what the WebP decodes to without further loss, but it can't add detail. It's simply raw and very large.

How big will the BMP be?

About width × height × 3 bytes. A 1920 × 1080 image becomes roughly 6.2 MB, no matter how small the WebP was.

Are my WebP files uploaded to a server?

No. Fylo converts WebP to BMP entirely inside your browser using a background Web Worker, so your files never leave your device. That's also why it's fast — there's no upload or download wait.
