Edit Word Document Online

Open a .docx, make changes, save back to Word

To edit a Word document without Word, open the .docx above. Fylo imports its text, headings, lists, tables and images into an editor where you can change wording and formatting. Then save as a new Word file (.docx) or a PDF. The document stays on your device the whole time.

No Word licence needed

Not everyone has Microsoft Word on every device — think library computers, Chromebooks, work laptops without Office, or a phone. Fylo opens .docx files with the open-source mammoth library, lets you make edits in a familiar toolbar, and writes a new .docx with the docx library that opens in Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages.

What carries over from Word

Paragraph text, headings, bold, italic, underline, lists, tables, links and embedded images come across reliably. Page layout features — columns, text boxes, headers and footers, footnotes, tracked changes and comments — are simplified or dropped. For quick content edits that's ideal; for complex layouts, keep editing in Word.

A quick workflow for edits

Open the .docx, use Find and replace for names, dates and figures that appear several times, then read through once more for anything that needs rewording. Check tables and images, which can shift slightly when imported. Save as .docx if someone else needs to keep editing, or as PDF when you're sending a final version — or save both, one after the other.

Your work is autosaved in this browser, so if the tab closes by accident you'll be offered to restore it next time.

Will the saved file open in Word?

Yes — it's a standard .docx.

Are tracked changes kept?

No, the editor shows the document's current text without revision marks.

Can I edit on my phone?

Yes, the toolbar moves to the bottom of the screen on phones.

Can I convert it to PDF?

Yes, choose PDF when saving.

Can I open password-protected Word files?

No. Remove the password in Word first; encrypted .docx files can't be read in the browser.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Edit Word Document runs entirely in your browser — your files are processed on your own device and never sent anywhere. Once the page has loaded, it even keeps working if your connection drops.
