How to convert DOCX to TXT

  1. Add DOCX files

Drop one or many .docx files.

  2. Extract

Click Extract text — it takes a moment even for long documents.

  3. Download

Save each .txt file or all of them as a ZIP.

Why plain text?

Plain text is the most portable format there is: it opens in every editor, pastes cleanly into web forms, chatbots and code, and never carries hidden formatting, comments or tracked changes. Writers use it to check word counts and feed manuscripts to tools; developers use it to process documents in scripts.

What's included

Fylo extracts the document's text in reading order with paragraph breaks preserved, including text inside tables. Images, fonts, colours and page layout are dropped, as are headers, footers and footnotes in most documents. The file is saved as UTF-8, so accented letters and non-Latin scripts are kept exactly.

Plain text for AI tools and translation

Pasting a Word document into a chatbot, translation tool or grammar checker can drag hidden formatting along or exceed limits on file uploads. Plain text avoids both: it's the cleanest input for AI tools, and it makes word and character counts precise. Fylo shows the word count as soon as the text is extracted.

Is the text encoding UTF-8?

Yes, so every language and symbol is preserved.

Are tables kept?

Their text is kept, but not the table layout.

Can I convert .doc files?

Only .docx is supported. Save older .doc files as .docx first.

Does it count words?

Yes — Fylo shows the word count after extraction.

Are numbered lists kept?

The list text is kept on separate lines; the automatic numbers and bullets themselves may not appear in plain text.

Is there a page limit?

No fixed limit. A 30-page report converts in well under a second on a typical laptop.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. DOCX to TXT runs entirely in your browser — your files are processed on your own device and never sent anywhere. Once the page has loaded, it even keeps working if your connection drops.
