Add Watermark to PDF
Stamp CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT or your name on every page
To watermark a PDF, open it above, type your watermark — for example CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, COPY or your company name — in the Stamps panel, set the opacity and click Save PDF. The text is placed diagonally across the centre of every page. Your document is processed entirely in your browser.

When to watermark
Watermarks signal a document's status (DRAFT, FINAL, VOID), its sensitivity (CONFIDENTIAL, INTERNAL) or who it's for ('Copy for ABC Bank — KYC only'). They discourage casual reuse and make leaks traceable. A light opacity of 15–25% keeps the content readable.
Text or image watermark
The Stamps watermark is light grey diagonal text sized to fit each page. For a logo watermark, use Add image on each page and lower its opacity. For images rather than PDFs, use Add Watermark to Image, which supports tiled watermarks.
Watermark wording that works
Keep it short so the text can be large: one or two words like DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, SAMPLE or VOID read clearly from across a room. For KYC and ID copies, include the purpose and the date so the copy can't easily be reused for something else. Choose a lower opacity for documents people need to read in full and a higher one for previews you don't want reused.
Watermarks are applied when you save, together with any page numbers, headers or footers you've set, so you can stamp a document completely in one pass.
Frequently asked questions
Can people remove the watermark?
It's drawn into the page content, so removing it requires a PDF editor. It's a deterrent, not encryption.
Can I change the angle or colour?
The watermark is diagonal, light grey, with adjustable opacity.
Does it support non-English text?
The standard PDF font covers Latin characters; other characters are replaced.
Will text stay searchable?
Yes — the original text is unaffected.
Is the watermark behind or over the text?
It's drawn over the page at low opacity, so the content stays readable while the mark is visible on every page.
Can I watermark only some pages?
The watermark is added to every page. Split the PDF first if only part should be marked.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Watermark PDF runs entirely in your browser — your files are processed on your own device and never sent anywhere. Once the page has loaded, it even keeps working if your connection drops.
