To add page numbers to a PDF, open it above — page numbers are already switched on in the Stamps panel. Choose the position (bottom centre, bottom right or top right) and format ('1' or 'Page 1 of 10'), optionally add a header or footer, and click Save PDF. Nothing is uploaded.

Numbering that respects rotation
Numbers are placed relative to how each page is displayed, so landscape and rotated pages get their number in the right corner, upright. They're written as real text in Helvetica at 10 pt, so they're crisp, searchable and add almost nothing to the file size.
Headers and footers
Add a document title as a header and a reference or confidentiality notice as a footer — both appear on every page. Combine with reordering or inserting pages; numbers are applied when you save, so they always follow the final page order.
Which format to choose
A plain number is clean and familiar for reports, books and essays. 'Page 1 of 10' is better for contracts, applications and legal documents, because it shows the reader that no pages are missing. Bottom centre is the most common position; bottom right suits documents read on screen, and top right is traditional for manuscripts and some academic work.
If you're merging several PDFs, number them after merging so the numbers run continuously across the whole document.
Frequently asked questions
Can I start numbering from a different number?
Numbering starts at 1 on the first page for now.
Can I skip the cover page?
Not yet — every page is numbered.
Which fonts are used?
Helvetica at 10 pt.
Will numbers overlap existing content?
They sit about 20 points from the page edge, which is clear of content on most documents.
Can I remove page numbers later?
Numbers become part of the page when you save. Keep the original file so you can number it differently if needed.
Can I add page numbers to a scanned PDF?
Yes — numbers are added on top of any page, including scans.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Add Page Numbers to PDF runs entirely in your browser — your files are processed on your own device and never sent anywhere. Once the page has loaded, it even keeps working if your connection drops.
