Mute Video — Remove Audio Online

Remove or replace the sound in any video

To mute a video, open it above — Mute original sound is already switched on — and export. The video keeps its picture with a silent soundtrack, so it plays normally everywhere. To replace the sound, add background music in the same panel. Everything is processed in your browser.

How to make a mute video

  1. Open the video

Choose the clip whose sound you want to remove.

  2. Mute or replace

Keep Mute original sound on, or add music to replace it.

  3. Export

Render the silent (or re-scored) video.

Why remove audio?

Background chatter, wind noise, copyrighted music in the background or private conversations are common reasons to mute a clip before posting it. Silent videos also autoplay more reliably on websites, which is why product demos and hero videos on web pages are usually muted.

Silent track vs no track

Fylo writes a silent audio track rather than dropping audio entirely. Some phones, editors and social networks handle videos with no audio track oddly, while a silent track behaves exactly like any other video. If you only want the audio instead, use Video to MP3.

Muting and resizing in one go

Muted clips are often meant for websites, presentations or chats, so it's worth making them smaller in the same export. Trim to the part you need, choose 720p and set a target size in Export; Fylo picks the bitrate for you. For web backgrounds, WebM is a good choice and widely supported by browsers.

Keep a copy of the original video with sound — the source file on your device is never changed, so it's still there if you need the audio later.

Can I lower the volume instead of muting?

Yes — untick mute and set the original volume slider.

Can I mute just part of a video?

Split the clip and mute isn't per-clip yet; whole-video muting is supported.

Can I add music after muting?

Yes, add background music under Audio.

Does it change video quality?

The video is re-encoded once at good quality.

Will a muted video autoplay on websites?

Browsers allow muted videos to autoplay, so muted exports are well suited for website backgrounds and demos.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Mute Video runs entirely in your browser — your files are processed on your own device and never sent anywhere. Once the page has loaded, it even keeps working if your connection drops.
