GIF to MP4 Converter

Make GIFs up to 10× smaller as MP4 video

To convert a GIF to MP4, drop your animated GIF above and click Convert to MP4. Fylo re-encodes every frame as H.264 video in your browser. The MP4 is usually 5–10 times smaller than the GIF, keeps millions of colours and plays on Instagram, X, WhatsApp and every phone — no upload needed.

Why convert GIFs to MP4?

GIF compresses each frame on its own with a 256-colour palette, so animated GIFs are huge. H.264 video only stores what changes between frames and supports full colour, which typically shrinks file size by 80–90%. Social networks quietly convert uploaded GIFs to video for the same reason, and web pages load MP4 'GIFs' much faster.

What changes in the MP4

The animation, timing and dimensions stay the same (dimensions are rounded to even numbers, which H.264 requires). Transparency isn't supported in MP4, so transparent areas become black. The MP4 plays once by default in most players — set it to loop where you embed it, or use autoplay loop muted playsinline on a web page.

Using MP4 as a 'GIF' on websites

To replace a heavy GIF on a web page, embed the MP4 with <video autoplay loop muted playsinline>. Browsers autoplay muted videos, so it behaves exactly like a GIF while loading much faster and improving Core Web Vitals.

Will the MP4 loop like a GIF?

Video players don't loop by default; social networks and the HTML loop attribute do.

Is quality lost?

At Balanced quality the result usually looks better than the GIF, because it isn't limited to 256 colours.

Can I convert GIF to WebP instead?

Yes — GIF to WebP keeps it as an image format, which suits some websites better.

Does it keep the GIF's speed?

Yes, frame timing is preserved.

Can I convert many GIFs at once?

Yes. Drop them all; each becomes its own MP4, and you can download them together as a ZIP.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. GIF to MP4 runs entirely in your browser — your files are processed on your own device and never sent anywhere. Once the page has loaded, it even keeps working if your connection drops.
