How to convert FLAC to WAV

  1. Add your FLAC files

Drag and drop FLAC files into the box or tap to choose them. The converter engine (about 31 MB) downloads once, the first time you convert.

  2. Check the settings

WAV is lossless, so there's no bitrate to pick. Change sample rate or switch to mono under Advanced if a device needs it.

  3. Convert and download

Click Convert, then download each WAV file or all of them as one ZIP.

Why convert FLAC to WAV?

Some DAWs, CD burning tools and hardware samplers need WAV instead of FLAC.

What happens when you convert FLAC to WAV?

FLAC decodes to exactly the original samples, written as 16-bit PCM WAV. The file roughly doubles in size.

How does Fylo convert FLAC to WAV?

Fylo decodes the FLAC audio in the FLAC with ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly and encodes it with 16-bit little-endian PCM with no compression. Both formats are lossless, so the decoded samples are identical; only the container and file size change (a 3-minute song is ≈ 18–24 MB as FLAC and ≈ 32 MB as WAV). The original sample rate and channel layout are kept unless you change them under Advanced.

What's the difference between FLAC and WAV?

FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) was released in 2001 and later maintained by the Xiph.Org Foundation. It compresses PCM audio like a ZIP file compresses data: nothing is thrown away, so a FLAC decodes to exactly the same samples as the source WAV, typically at 50–70% of the size.

WAV was introduced by Microsoft and IBM in 1991 and, like AVI, uses the RIFF container. Most WAVs hold uncompressed PCM audio: CD quality (44.1 kHz, 16-bit, stereo) runs at 1,411 kbps, or about 10.6 MB per minute.

Is FLAC to WAV lossless?

Yes, completely (24-bit sources are written as 16-bit).

Why is the WAV twice as big?

WAV is uncompressed; FLAC compresses losslessly.

Is my FLAC file uploaded to a server?

No. Fylo runs ffmpeg, the same engine used by professional video tools, compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser. Your FLAC file is read directly from your device and never sent anywhere.
