Change Audio Volume — Volume Booster
Make quiet audio louder, or tame loud files
To change audio volume, drop your files above, choose a level from 10% to 300% — or switch on Normalise loudness — and click Change volume. Fylo applies the change with ffmpeg in your browser and keeps your file's format. It's free, private and handles several files in one go.

Evens out loudness to a standard level (−16 LUFS) instead of a fixed boost.
100% = unchanged. Above 200% may distort loud parts.

Boost vs normalise
A volume change multiplies every sample by the same amount: 200% is about +6 dB. It's ideal for a recording that's simply too quiet. Normalise loudness instead measures how loud the audio sounds over time (in LUFS) and adjusts it to −16 LUFS, the level podcast platforms commonly recommend, with a true-peak limit of −1.5 dB to avoid clipping.
Avoiding distortion
Boosting can push peaks beyond the maximum level, which causes harsh clipping. If a recording has loud moments and quiet speech, normalising is safer than a big boost. Above roughly 200%, listen to the result before sharing. Lowering volume never distorts.
Batch adjustments
Drop several files to apply the same change to all of them — useful for evening out a set of voice clips, podcast segments or ringtones before sharing.
| Setting | Change | Use when |
|---|---|---|
| 50% | ≈ −6 dB | Background music under a voice |
| 150% | ≈ +3.5 dB | Slightly quiet recordings |
| 200% | ≈ +6 dB | Quiet phone recordings |
| Normalise | To −16 LUFS | Podcasts, mixed recordings |
Frequently asked questions
Will boosting volume reduce quality?
Not for moderate boosts. Very large boosts can clip loud parts; normalising avoids that.
Can I make a video louder?
This tool outputs audio. Drop a video to get a louder MP3 of its soundtrack.
Does it keep my file format?
Yes — MP3 stays MP3, WAV stays WAV.
What is LUFS?
Loudness Units relative to Full Scale — a measure of perceived loudness used by streaming and broadcast services.
Can I make audio quieter?
Yes — choose a value below 100%, for example 50% to halve the volume (about −6 dB).
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Change Audio Volume runs entirely in your browser — your files are processed on your own device and never sent anywhere. Once the page has loaded, it even keeps working if your connection drops.
