How to make a passport photo

Use a recent, well-lit photo taken against a plain light wall, facing the camera.
Choose size and frame
Pick your country's size, then drag and zoom until your head fits the oval and your eyes sit on the guide line.
Download
Click Create photo to get the single 300 DPI photo and, if you like, a 4 × 6 inch sheet to print.
Passport photo sizes by country
Most countries — including India, the United Kingdom, the Schengen area, Australia and New Zealand — use 35 × 45 mm photos, in which the head should fill roughly 70–80% of the height. The United States uses 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm) and Canada uses 50 × 70 mm. Fylo's guide overlay marks where your head and eyes should sit, so you can frame the photo correctly before exporting.
Rules that get photos rejected
Use a plain white or light background without shadows, face the camera directly with a neutral expression and both eyes open, and remove glasses if your country requires it — the United States has banned glasses in passport photos since 2016. The photo must be recent, in focus and evenly lit.
Fylo doesn't replace backgrounds automatically yet, so photograph yourself against a plain light wall for the best result. Any area outside your photo is filled with the background colour you choose.
Printing your photos
The print sheet places as many photos as fit on a standard 4 × 6 inch (10 × 15 cm) photo print, with thin cutting guides. Print it at a photo kiosk or online lab at 'actual size' — not 'fit to page' — and cut along the lines. For online applications, upload the single photo file instead.

Frequently asked questions
Will a photo made with Fylo be accepted?
Fylo produces the correct size and resolution, but acceptance also depends on lighting, background, expression and your country's rules. Always check the official guidelines before submitting.
Can Fylo change my background to white?
Not yet. Fylo fills any empty area with the colour you choose, but it doesn't replace the background behind you. Take the photo against a plain white or light-grey wall.
What resolution is the photo?
300 DPI, the standard for photo printing — for example 413 × 531 pixels for 35 × 45 mm.
Can I make the photo under 50 KB for an online form?
Yes. Set a maximum file size under Advanced and Fylo compresses the single photo to fit.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Passport Photo Maker runs entirely in your browser — your files are processed on your own device and never sent anywhere. Once the page has loaded, it even keeps working if your connection drops.
