Where is a 50 KB limit common?
50 KB is one of the most common upper limits on online forms: photos for exam registrations, job portals, bank KYC uploads, university admissions and many visa and ID applications. It's also a practical size for email signatures and website thumbnails, where large images slow everything down. At 50 KB there's room for a 400–600-pixel photo that looks crisp on screen.
How Fylo hits the target
Fylo first tries your photo at full size, searching between 92% and 40% JPG quality for the best result under 50,000 bytes. If even 40% quality is too big, it estimates how much smaller the image must be, reduces the dimensions just enough and searches again, repeating until the photo fits.
This keeps as many pixels as possible, because a larger image at moderate quality usually looks better than a tiny one at maximum quality. The final size and dimensions are shown before you download.
| Target | Good for | Width that typically looks sharp |
|---|---|---|
| 20 KB | Exam photo and signature uploads | 200–300 px |
| 50 KB | ID and profile photos, KYC | 400–600 px |
| 100 KB | Document scans, thumbnails | 800–1000 px |
Frequently asked questions
Does compressing to 50 KB reduce the resolution?
Only if it has to. Fylo first lowers JPG quality and shrinks dimensions only when quality alone can't reach 50 KB.
My form says 'between 20 KB and 50 KB'. Will this work?
Yes — results land just under 50 KB, comfortably above the 20 KB minimum.
Can I compress a PNG or HEIC to 50 KB?
Yes. PNG, WebP, HEIC and other images are accepted; the result is saved as JPG, which is far smaller than PNG for photos.
Can I compress a PDF to a small size too?
Yes — use Compress PDF. Scanned PDFs shrink substantially with the Strong setting.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Compress Image to 50 KB runs entirely in your browser — your files are processed on your own device and never sent anywhere. Once the page has loaded, it even keeps working if your connection drops.
